"Your cart comes to a stop in front of that big-screen plasma TV set you've been salivating over. Your conscious mind races, calculating tax, budgeting, imagining how you're going to lug the thing up the stairs. But what's going on behind the scenes? In a new study, brain researchers shed light on the neurological process behind our shopping decisions. Published in the journal Neuron, the study used MRI scans to track the brain patterns of consumers making shopping decisions. A portion of the brain known as the nucleus accumbens activates when someone first comes across an attractive item. When your eyes wander to the price tag, however, a region called the insula goes into overdrive while the mesial prefrontal cortex shuts down. Researchers plan further studies to examine how marketing and pricing techniques may manipulate consumers' "subconscious brain patterns."...LifeScripts.com
